Project History
Our clientele includes, but is not limited to, private individuals, land developers, all three levels of government, and other professionals such as: lawyers, engineers, and architects. We assist large corporations with land dealings or construction projects. Many municipalities including the City of Winnipeg require our services on a regular basis to prepare road opening or closing plans, restore destroyed or damaged survey monumentation, or prepare easement plans and delineate easement areas for items such as dyke construction or other municipal works. The following is a listing of many types of projects completed in the recent past. These demonstrate the ability and commitment to undertake various projects for our clientele.
With a new generation at the helm, the company employs a wide range of experienced professional, technical and field staff able to meet various challenges in today's marketplace.
Treaty Land Entitlement Surveys
Treaty Land Entitlement Surveys are large logistical and management projects. Treaty Land Entitlement surveys require the cutting, clearing, posting, plan preparation, and natural feature identification of a large land masses and water boundaries to fulfill the transfer from Crown Lands to the First Nations people. These projects involve the coordination of personnel, contractors, government authorities, and First Nations. The logistics and transportation required to carry out an isolated survey in northern Manitoba during the winter months is quite extensive. This may involve the use of planes, helicopters, snowmobiles and the usage of winter roads. These projects also involve the implementation of Health, Safety and Emergency preparedness due to the project locations and time of year.
Mining Surveys
Ongoing projects for mining companies involving GPS surveys of all drill locations, features and cut lines used for geological study. Collection of data points with feature tags related to date. These projects require local control network to be modernized and converted to a real world coordinate system. This involves establishing a geodetic control grid on the project site. A full network analysis and adjustment using a 2D conformal projection with a Least Squares Adjustment to generate a database of coordinates and associated station markers.
Engineering Surveys and Drainage Design
Topographic surveying services for sub centimeter accuracy position and elevations to determine accurate cut and fill values. DTM surface generation at various stages of the project and comparisons with DTM design surfaces to determine differences in actual from design.
Barnes and Duncan have been involved in numerous and extensive topographic surveys involving DTM generation and modeling. From these models water flow prediction, water discharge rates, drainage design plans and proposals have been created. These projects are often related to subdivisions, private property, shopping centres and other new building construction.
Barnes and Duncan also provides data management, quality control, geodetic survey control and GPS surveying expertise in creating large 3D DTM models for various projects. We have managed projects of this type dealing with the data collection, quality control, and dissemination of in excess of 500,000 data points. Data management, data flow, and quality control are key components to projects of this type.
